The Monroe speech team qualified 12 entries to the 57th annual California High School Speech Association Championship Tournament, this year held in Vista Murietta H.S., April 17-19. Six of our speakers advanced to semi-final and final rounds, with the following results: 3rd Place Dramatic Interpretation, out of 307 entries statewide: Jazmyn S., senior. 3rd Place Humorous Interpretation, out of 248 entries statewide: Xochitl H., jr. 5th Place Expository Speaking, out of 224 entries statewide: William S., senior 9th place Oratorical Interpretation, out of 325 entries statewide: Dalia D., sophomore 9th Place Original Advocacy, out of 194 entries statewide: Aminata D., senior. 13th Place Original Advocacy, out of 194 entries statewide: John C., senior. Overall, out of 160 schools entered at the tournament, Monroe ranked 11th in the state of California! No other LAUSD school even came close!
